Behind the scenes: Lower School Shakespeare Festival
December 14, 2022
Aspen Country Day School’s annual Lower School Shakespeare Festival gives students early exposure to a rich cultural legacy, including the complex but compelling language and themes of classic works. The 2022-23 Festival commenced in November on the Castle Creek campus with performances from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade in the Lower School Commons and Edlis-Neeson Hall.
The Shakespeare Festival is a favorite tradition at Aspen Country Day School, bringing the Bard’s classics to life. Children create their own new interpretations of works ranging from Macbeth in Kindergarten to Julius Caesar in Fifth Grade, all while building empathy, understanding, and a powerful sense of community.
The Lower School Shakespeare Festival, full of creative storytelling and plot development, themes of love, power and betrayal, and intricately choreographed stage combat, will continue later in the school year with more performances.
